Now that is a good, but unfortunate question. And one I have the great displeasure of having to deal with myself.
I applied for a new High Deductible Health Plan with a new carrier a couple of weeks ago, which I mentioned on this blog. I am in terrific health as is my family…..
Got a letter last night from the insurance that had the cooling effect of a walk-in refrigerator. You see, my wife suffers from migraine headaches. She is not incapacitated, but over the years has taken a couple of medications that threw up a red flag at the insurance company.
I have a call into my insurance agent as I write and will report back the results on a subsequent blog. BUT, I do remember something another agent told me one time, and I am kicking myself for not making sure my Agent didn’t do this prior to submitting the request for insurance.
That piece of advice was to get your agent to get you pre-screened anonymously with the insurance carrier prior to submitting your application. And here’s why I was told you should do that. Once you have been denied coverage, you will be asked everytime you apply for insurane again, if you have ever been denied coverage. Apparently, it is like wearing a Scarlett Letter. It also kind of sucks.
I’m definitely going to discuss this Scarlett Letter thing with my insurance agent. In the meantime, as I told my wife, no need to panic, we still have plenty of time for that. More to follow….
