What is an HSA? Well, this blog sets out to provide Health Savings Account Education from a guy on the inside. I have a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), am self-insured, formerly had an Employer provided POS plan, was on COBRA for awhile before meeting the world of Consumer Directed Healthcare (CDH) and becoming an advocate for Health Savings Accounts and HSA Education. HSAs are not perfect. HSAs are not the solution for everyone. HSAs will not solve the massive social and political issues related to healthcare today. BUT, they are a tool that can help us begin get our arms around the expenses associated with healthcare. High Deductible Health Plans and Health Savings Accounts are a tool that can help us to examine our own health and hopefully lead us down a path to wellness. HDHPs and HSAs are a tool that can help us be accountable to ourselves and help make healthcare practitioners be accountable to us. They are not THE solution. They ARE A solution. Be well.

Hi there,
“For 2009, the maximum annual HSA contribution for an eligible individual with self-only coverage is $3,000.
For family coverage, the maximum annual HSA contribution is $5,950.”
Question:
My husband and I share a family HDHP. In 2009, can we each contribute $5,950 to our individual HSA accounts, or $3,000?
If you have a family HDHP the max you can contribute is $5950 between the two of you.
Thanks very much.
hope that helped. check out http://www.hsaeducator.com for more info on health savings accounts
